Dice Bags!

You can now purchase super awesome dice bags made by me at Comicopolis in downtown Santa Cruz!  Or if you don't want to drive that far, or you're too busy to leave your house, you can buy them directly from me on my Etsy page!

The bags are roughly 3" by 3" and come in three fancy styles.  Each bag is handmade by me from 100% cotton muslin, then hand printed by me using a mysterious technology I like to call "rubber stamps."

Mustache Kitten! For the discerning hipster gamer.

Buy this bag, and you too will giggle every single time you need to grab yourself some percentile dice.

D20! Featuring an awesome stamp hand-carved by me.

This super rad dice bag depicts a D20, the standard of the gaming world.  I carved the stamp myself from a linoleum block using sharp objects, and I'm super proud of myself.

DICE.  Comes with a little castle, or a big box of loot.

Use these special bags to store your dungeon looting dice.  I know I sure do.

Comfortably holds a set of polyhedral dice.

This small cotton pouch is the perfect size for a full set of normal sized polyhedral dice, or 9-10 normal six-sided dice.  You can shove a full set of 12 six-sided dice in there, but it's not really big enough.

This bag is fully lined for long-lasting durability.

Keep those pesky polyhedral dice separated from the rest of your massive dice hoard, so you never have to fumble for a matching D4 and D12 again.

Buy all of them!  For reasons!

Rat Headed Girl Doll

This rat-headed lady is what I've been working on the past couple of weeks!  Remember the doll parts I posted last week?  This doll has a human shaped body with a rat's head.  I'm very proud of this doll.  She's roughly 11" tall when standing.

"Theriocephaly" is the condition of having the body of a human and the head of an animal.  Every culture that I can think of has stories of animal-headed gods and monsters.  Something about the concept has really grabbed onto my imagination, and I'm expecting to make many more of these animal-headed dolls.

Her jointed legs let her sit.
Like this rat-headed doll?  She's for sale on my etsy.

Doll Parts

It's been a while since I updated! I post a bit more at my tumblr, emmavonskulltaker.tumblr.com.  I'm working on a fairly large project which will hopefully be finished tomorrow.  Here's a somewhat creepy preview.  I bet you can't guess what it is!

Thanks to Jason for snapping a photo!

Silk Ribbon Flowers!

I've been insanely busy lately, first working seven days a week at two jobs and then moving house, so I haven't had as much time to make things as I would have liked.

Several months ago I received an enormous amount of embroidery materials in the mail, including a bunch of silk and rayon ribbon. I made this while playing around with silk ribbon embroidery techniques, as well as wool felt appliqué. I also went in and added some shadow using very watered down acrylic paint. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty charmed by the final result.

The design is about 6 inches tall and 4 inches across. I may go back and fill in the lower left a bit more, but it's okay for now.

The Nipslip Mary

I did this as a present for my BFF, who jokingly asked for a Picasso-style Virgin Mary for her bathroom. It didn't end up very Picasso like, but I'm pretty proud of it. The colors are very rich. The spots that look white are mostly metallics. Painted with acrylics on canvas.

This Happened

My brother got married this weekend. We went on a road trip.

It's a Patch!

Embroidery floss, wool felt, and a few hours of geekery equals, well, this. Admiral Ackbar is approximately 4" tall and wants you to beware of Imperial traps.

Chritsmas Mice: A Hat

In November I posted the beginnings of a hat project here. Today I thought I'd get around to posting the final product, which I wore proudly to work for a silly christmas hat themed event.

The hat is made with a piece of shaped buckram, covered in white felt. There is some stiff wire that I machine zig-zagged around the edge of the platform, then covered with a one-inch wide piece of white velvet ribbon. This thing is really heavy, it is mounted to a headband and also an alligator clip, and it still needs to be repositioned every hour or so. Not exactly a practical accessory!

The 'snow' that the mice are sledding on is a twisted pile of various white trims including several different laces, ribbons, cord, a huge white rick-rack, a fake pearl string, pom-poms, sequins, and more - everything I could find in white, went on this hat! Although I am normally a huge hater of glitter, I even added glitter glue to this insanity.

Hex Nut Jewelry

Last night I spent a couple hours braiding cotton cord and hex nuts. This is the results.

Roadkill Rabbit Necklace

I made this as a christmas gift for a friend. The base is comprised of several layers of lace fabrics sandwiched together and embroidered. The rabbit is raw silk and about 1" tall, and the intestines are made of satin cord appliquéd onto the lace. I also added beads and chains to make it look a bit more like jewelry, and it closes with a heart shaped toggle.

I've been making progressively smaller rabbits in this style for a couple of years, this is by far the tiniest I have ever made. This is just a very quick snapshot I took before giving it away, sorry for the poor quality.

Zombie Silhouette

A small painting I did this afternoon. I started out just trying to get a nice gradient in the color as a test for a different piece I'm working on, and I liked the results so I decided to keep it. The zombie was a quick stencil with a few details added in afterwards. It's acrylic on a 6x8 canvas panel.

This is inspired by a few small paintings I saw on the wall in a hostel in L.A. I'm afraid they weren't labeled with a name, so I can't credit the original artist with the idea.

Edison Beetle

This is a prototype I've been working on. The problems haven't quite been ironed out, but I think it's cute. This is a repurposed sewing machine lightbulb, with wire legs and wire mesh wings. The edges of the mesh are covered with a silver colored metal tape. The electrical contacts on the base of the bulb make this little bug look like it has a quizzical expression, which I think is pretty cute! I am going to try another version with a slightly smaller gauge wire.
